In the past days many of you were visited by the wonderworking Kursk-Root icon of the Mother of God. Many of you prayed before it in the church, during the moleben and akathist. If for some reason you were not informed about the icon being in our city, or it was not brought to your home, please, leave your coordinates with our warden, Olga Kiriloff, and we will make sure to contact you next time the icon will be here.

Beautiful calendars for the year 2005 are being sold in our church bookstore. Cards for various occasions are also available. Buying books, calendars, icons, and other items in our bookstore, you contribute your support to our church.

Our choir is planning to have a few rehearsals. If you wish to sing in our choir, please, contact Alexander Ignatow. The exact time of the rehearsals will be announced in the nearest future.

On Sunday, December 12th, after the Liturgy, in the parish hall, a general meeting of the parish will take place. The main topic of discussion is the parish membership. We hope that all of our current members, and all who wish to join our parish, will be able to participate.

On Sunday, December 19th, on the day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Liturgy will begin at 9:00 AM. That will give everyone an opportunity to attend the jubilee banquet of St. Nicholas parish in Montreal.

We would like to remind all the parents that the Christmas "Yolka" rehearsals are held on Sundays, after the parish church school. We hope that many of our children will participate in the coming celebration.

On Sunday, December 5th, after the Liturgy, in the parish hall, a seminar with the theme "Life of the parish" will take place. The fundamentals of the spiritual and material life of the parish, as well as its administrative structure, will be presented during the seminar. A healthy understanding of the parish life is necessary for the healthy development of a parish, therefore, we hope that everyone will be able to set aside the time in order to participate in this seminar. At the end, everyone will have an opportunity to ask questions, relevant to the presentation.

We humbly request all of our parishioners and visitors to our church to fill out the census forms, which are available at the candle box. The census is conducted to enable us to pray for all of our parishioners and visitors and to contact them when necessary. We guarantee the full confidentiality of the information you provide.

According to the ancient custom, oil lamps were placed before the icons in our church. We ask all of our parishioners to donate the pure olive oil for the commemoration of their relatives. Now everyone can light the lamps with his contribution.

On Friday, November 5th, at 7:00 PM, the youth of the parish, 14 and older, are invited to the house of the rector for a movie viewing and discussion.

On Sunday, at 12:30 PM after the Liturgy, our parish church school will begin. Children seven years old and under will study with matushka Elizabeth in the choir loft, eight years old and up, with father Viatcheslav in the northern wing of the church.

We invite everyone for lunch after the Liturgy. Due to the beginning of church school, we ask the parents to feed the students immediately after the prayer before meal.

On the weekend of October 9th and 10th, Metropolitan Laurus will preside over the patronal feast celebrations at the Protection church. For those days the services at our parish are cancelled.

All who wish to support the victims of Beslan by donations of medicine, clothing, toys, or money may bring their contributions to the church and leave them in the care of Fr. Viatcheslav. Please, bring your donation to the church before or after the regular services, or contact Fr. Viatcheslav at (613) 599-9367 or (613) 862-9045 to make arrangements to bring it by at another time.

On the 18th and the 19th of September our parish will be celebrating its patronal feast. Bishop Gabriel will join our festivities. We hope that all of the parishioners will be able to come and will invite their friends.

By the decree of the Holy Synod of our church, today, we will have a plate collection for the assistance of the family of the departed father Andrei Trufanov from Bari, Italy.

Our parish has one more reader. Last Sunday, Vladyka Gabriel tonsured Alexander Oreshkin a reader. For some time, Alexander has well directed our choir on Saturdays and week days. We congratulate him and his family!

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Gabriel, registration for the only Russian Orthodox camp in Canada, Ruskoka (http://www.ruskoka.com), has begun. The camp is for adolescents from 12-16 years old, and is scheduled for August 1-14. The registration fee is $450 for two weeks.

On behalf of the entire parish we thank our youth and many of their parents, who worked hard for the beautification of our grounds last Monday and Saturday. Altogether, more than twenty people responded to our call for help. A big "Thank you!" to all of them.

On Saturday, May 15th, at 5:00 PM, Fr. Viatcheslav will have the first regular meeting with the young adults of the parish at the parish hall. From then on, talks will be held every other Saturday.

Also on Saturday, May 22nd, at 5:00 PM, Fr. Viatcheslav will have the first regular meeting with the adult members of the parish. From then on, these talks will too be held every other Saturday.

On Tuesday, April 20th, at 6:30 PM, there will be a thanksgiving prayer service at Protection of the Holy Virgin Memorial Church at 99 Stonehurst Ave. Father George and his parishioners have invited us to pray with them.

At the request of some of our parishioners, we would like to remind everyone that the parking spaces closest to the entrance of the church are reserved for the disabled and the elderly. Therefore, we solemnly ask that the young and the healthy park their vehicles behind the church.

The Russian Winter Ball in Montreal is being postponed until a more appropriate date can be found.

Father Viatcheslav Davidenko, St. Xenia's new Parish Priest, will be visiting us this weekend to conduct the Theophany cycle of services and to bless our homes with Holy Water.

Fr. Viatcheslav will be arriving at noon on Friday, January 16th and will be departing on Thursday, January 22. He will perform the services as scheduled, though the Royal Hours on Friday, January 16th are cancelled.

House blessings will start immediately after the service on Monday, January 19th and continue both in the daytime and evenings of January 20th and 21st. If you wish to have Fr. Viatcheslav bless your home, please call Matushka Lyuba Milonow at (613) 592-3887 to have your name put on the list and to select your preferred time.

Father, his Matushka (Elizabeth) and their two children (Seth and Antonina) expect to move to Ottawa by the middle of February.

The organizers of the Russian Winter Ball in Montreal, to be held on Friday evening, January 30th, 2004, wish to remind all of those in Ottawa to get their tickets for this special event. The proceeds are for the restoration of St. Nicholas Cathedral.

Sunday, January 11th will be the last Liturgy with Fr. Mark as rector of our parish. The Sisterhood cordially invites everyone for lunch after the Liturgy, so that we could thank Fr. Mark and Matushka and wish them well as Fr. Mark starts his new mission in New Jersey.
